Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have agreed to settle their decade-long divorce outside of the public court system.
According to newly obtained legal documents obtained by SurgeZirc UK, Arnold and Maria agreed to have their ongoing divorce removed from the Los Angeles County Courthouse and handled by a private judge. The judge in their case appears to have agreed and ordered it. “Stipulation and Order for Appointment of Private Judge,” the court records state.

It’s possible that the ex-couple hasn’t decided who will handle the case. As previously reported, the famous ex-couple recently filed a declaration of disclosure in their case, indicating that they are finally on the verge of finalizing their divorce. Surprisingly, the case dates back more than a decade, with Maria filing for divorce on July 1, 2011 — after learning that the ‘Terminator’ star had fathered a child with the couple’s housekeeper, Mildred Baena.
Nothing had been filed in the divorce case in over four years until this year. However, the agreement to work with a private judge indicates that the couple is once again on the verge of finalizing their divorce. It should be noted that many A-list celebrities prefer to work with a private judge on their divorce cases in order to keep the information out of the public eye.
In other words, if a divorce is fought in a courtroom, the public and the media are privy to the details. Many celebrities, including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, have chosen this path. Their case, however, did not go as planned.
As previously stated, Arnold and Maria’s marriage, as well as their divorce, has been the subject of much speculation over the years. On the one hand, reports surfaced that the former California governor had expressed no desire to formally end the marriage.
The couple has been divorced for over a decade, but other reports claim that Maria was the one who dallied on the issue and decided to remain legally married to Schwarzenegger.
With a reported estate of more than $400 million on the line in the settlement, the stakes are high in this divorce. You may wonder why they haven’t hammered it out. With that kind of money, the only thing that matters is that it is distributed fairly. Plus, when you’re this wealthy, neither side is in a hurry to get their hands on the money.
Not surprisingly, the couple had no prenuptial agreement when they married in 1986. It’s significant because, under California law, no matter how much wealth the couple accumulates, it will be split 50/50.
At this point, it’s unclear what is motivating the ex-couple to reopen settlement talks. It’s possible that the situation isn’t top of mind, and they’re too preoccupied with being new grandparents!
