Serena Williams went on to beat German Laura Siegemund 6-4 6-3 at the ASB Classic in Auckland and secured her spot in the semi-finals.
Laura Siegmund who is ranked 73rd fell short to the 23-time grand slam champion.
Serena Williams is on a mission to right her previous mistakes after being knocked out of the Auckland classic in the second round in 2017 by fellow American Madison Brengle.

In her post-match interview, Williams told the press:
“It was good for me to just fight, you know,”
“She has a really good game, and she stepped up and hit a lot of good winners, so it wasn’t really easy. I just had to step up and play a little better, and hopefully get through it.”
“You try to have a more positive attitude, but I got a little negative at the end. It was just so windy,”
“But I like running down dropshots, so I don’t mind playing against players who hit dropshots. I’m very fast, especially moving forward. It’s one of my strengths, so I actually don’t mind it.”
It was not an easy matchup for Serena who after a tight opening set found herself down a breakpoint in the second set but managed to bounce back and beat the German.
Serena Williams who last won a singles title in 2017 is on her way to claim another one having already beaten Camila Giorgi, Christina McHale and now Laura Siegemund. READ MORE…..
