In a handy parenting hack, people have been recommended to take their consoles out the box, hook them up, connect to WiFi and update – before wrapping them and sticking them under the tree.
Gaming expert James Whatley went viral in 2019 when he took to Twitter to pass on the useful advice.
All games consoles have regular system updates, with some bigger than others, and updates can take up to an hour, or even longer in some cases.
Games consoles could have been sitting on shop shelves for months prior to being bought.
This therefore means that there will be various updates waiting for them once they are sparked into life.
So if all updates are complete before your loved one gets their hands on the console it will save them possibly hours waiting for it to be ready for playing.
