Ahmedabad: World famous Indian architect Dr. Balakrishna Vitthaldas Doshi (BV Doshi) passed away at the age of 95. BV Doshi breathed her last at her residence Kamla House in Ahmedabad. As soon as the news of his death was received, the architectural world of India was shocked. He left his residence in the afternoon for his final journey.
Social media users have been paying tributes to him, with people hailing him as India’s greatest architect. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Dr. B. V. Condolences have been expressed on the demise of Doshi.
BV Doshi has designed some of India’s most iconic buildings. He designed the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad, Gufa Underground Gallery of Ahmedabad, Tagore Memorial Hall, Institute of Indology and Premabhai Hall as well as his residence Kamla House.
He has designed many buildings including the Indian Institute of Management in Bengaluru and Udaipur, the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi, the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology.
He was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 2018 for his outstanding contribution to the field of architecture. His design for the Aranya Low Cost Housing Project in Indore was awarded the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. In 2022, he was awarded the Royal Gold Medal of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He has also been honored with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan
