Mumbai: The state government has given concrete shape to a massive investment plan in the Navi Mumbai Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The Cabinet meeting approved the recommendations made by the High Level Committee to provide additional permissible services in the 85 per cent industrial area reserved for industry in Navi Mumbai. With this decision of the government, 60 thousand crores will be invested in Navi Mumbai, due to which employment opportunities will be created for about one lakh people. International medical and educational institutions have been approved as industrial estates. The industry will provide state-of-the-art educational and research facilities. 60 thousand crores will be invested in this project, due to which one lakh jobs will be created.
INTEGRATED INDUSTRIAL AREA IN NAVI MUMBAI In the year 2006, the then government decided to create ‘Navi Mumbai Economic Development Zone’ in joint partnership with CIDCO. But due to the economic situation and the changed tax structure of the central government, the Special Economic Zone could not function. For this, the government in 2018 allowed it to be converted into an integrated industrial area. As per condition the industries to be set up in this industrial area will be pollution free.
Emphasis is being placed on the service sector considering Navi Mumbai’s special geographical structure and environment. Now the area has been allowed to set up state-of-the-art services in the field of information and technology, due to which the area is going to become an information and technology hub.
It has been decided to implement one window system to promote industries. This will speed up the investment work and the businessmen will not have to face any difficulties. The Cabinet meeting also approved the Maharashtra Industry, Trade and Investment Facilitation Center (One Window) Bill 2022.
The bill has provisions to speed up the process of issuing permits to industries and to fix the responsibilities of agencies. A Chamber for Facilitation of Industry, Trade and Investment of Maharashtra has also been established under the ‘One Window Scheme’ to promote industrialization in the state. The Industries Department has recommended giving statutory status to these societies.
