Ahmedabad: On learning that the husband is brain dead, he can remain alive in another life even after death. My family’s lamp is going out, but light shines in someone else’s life in need. May the sufferer be freed from the pain of deformity or distress in the limbs. May his life become cheerful again. Considering all these things I have decided to donate my brain dead husband’s organs –. These are the words of Braindead Rasikbhai’s wife Kokilabhan Parmar.
Rasikbhai Parmar originally hails from Mehmedabad in Kheda district. Rasikbhai, who was working as a farm laborer to support his family, was returning home from the farm and got a serious head injury in a road accident. As the injuries were very serious, they were rushed to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital’s Trauma Center for immediate treatment. Here, the doctors made a preliminary diagnosis and the condition was found to be extremely serious, so the doctors decided to shift Rasikbhai to the ICU for intensive treatment.
Civil Hospital doctors made all efforts to save Rasikbhai. But in the end it happened as the Lord pleased. After all efforts he was declared brain dead by the doctors. Rasikbhai’s wife was consulted for organ donation by the counselors of SOTTO (State Organ Tissue And Transplant Organisation) working for the service activities of organ donation in Civil Hospital after being declared brain dead. Kokilabhen’s condition was as if the aura had broken after learning that her husband was brain dead. Even in this hour of sorrow, feeling the spirit of philanthropy, he made a public decision of organ donation for the benefit of others. Rasikbhai’s nephew was also donated in this Parmar family, which is financially poor but can be said to be philanthropic at heart. This decision of Kokilabhan Parmar led to the donation of two kidneys and a liver of brain dead Rasikbhai. Which has been transplanted in a patient admitted to the Kidney Hospital of Civil Medicine.
Superintendent of Civil Dr. Reacting to the 108th organ donation, Joshi said that as a result of the increasing awareness of organ donation in the society, today it has become easier to give new life to others by getting organ donation from brain dead patients. As a result of which, in the last four days, one organ donation per day has been successfully obtained in the civil hospital. By which three needy people have got a new life every day.
