Oscar-nominated filmmaker, Director Sophia Nahli Allison, has branded Lizzo a ‘narcissistic bully’ and is standing firm on her stance regarding the singer’s alleged ‘toxic’ behaviour during their collaboration on a documentary in 2019.
Allison initially came forward in response to a lawsuit filed by three former backup dancers, accusing Lizzo of sexual harassment and fostering a hostile work environment. In her latest Instagram Stories, Allison shed more light on her experiences, expressing solidarity with others who faced similar encounters with the artist and her team.

‘To be clear,’ Allison stated, ‘Since I’ve spoken out, I’ve had others privately share their very similar experiences, and I have also been affirmed by people who witnessed what I went through.’

‘Lizzo creates an extremely toxic and hostile working environment and undermines the work, labor, and authority of other black and brown women in the process.’
‘She is a narcissistic bully and has built her brand off of lies. I was excited to support and protect a Black woman through the documentary process, but quickly learned her image and “message” were a curated facade.’
‘I stand with the dancers and anyone who has had similar experiences working with her and her team. These working conditions are not ok.’

This statement followed her initial revelation about directing Lizzo’s documentary four years ago. Allison, who rarely comments on pop culture matters, shared her disappointing encounter, revealing that she walked away from the project after approximately two weeks due to the singer’s disrespectful behavior.
Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, is facing a legal battle initiated by her ex-backup dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez. The lawsuit alleges that Lizzo made inappropriate comments about their weight and pressured one of them to touch a nude performer in a strip club.
As the legal proceedings unfold, it has been brought to light that Lizzo’s dance captain, Shirlene Quigley, is also facing accusations for sharing ‘lewd sexual fantasies’ and discussing the virginity of one of the plaintiffs while berating those who had pre-marital sex.

The plaintiffs’ lawsuit includes complaints for damages such as hostile work environment, sexual harassment, religious harassment, racial harassment, disability discrimination, and failure to prevent or remedy the harassment. Specific allegations against Lizzo involve disability discrimination, creating a hostile work environment, sexual harassment, and failing to address these issues.
Additionally, her touring company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., is also named as a defendant in the case, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
