Ari Lennox marks a significant milestone as she celebrates seven months of sobriety. On Instagram, the 32-year-old “Shea Butter Baby” singer shared recent photos of herself and opened up about her journey towards sobriety.
“7 months sober. That’s a lot of sober flights. A lot of sober conversations. A lot of facing things raw and head on,” reflected Lennox in her caption. She expressed uncertainty about what the future holds, stating, “Honestly I don’t know what will happen when I reach a year sober.”
However, the singer made it clear that she can’t imagine going back to her previous habits, recalling moments of feeling unwell and overwhelmed due to excessive drinking, such as “passing out in the airport or having my emotions heightened more than necessary.”

Since embracing sobriety, Lennox revealed that she now feels more in control of her emotions, more stable, happier, more alert, and safer. She has also become more accepting of things beyond her control and more responsible with those she can influence.
Socially, she experiences less anxiety and sets boundaries when needed. Lennox no longer finds interest in partying, realizing that she enjoys more tranquil and enjoyable activities.
Acknowledging the positive impact of accepting help, Lennox emphasized the game-changing effects of having support during her journey. She values waking up without hangovers, embarrassment, night terrors, or panic attacks caused by alcohol.
Sobriety has heightened her sense of awareness, enabling her to experience events as they unfold and cherish the present moment. Lennox appreciates the rawness of feeling everything in the world and recognizes that her healthier coping mechanisms have made a positive difference in her life.
Lennox disclosed that she hasn’t dated in over a year, casually conveying this message to the universe. Addressing the fantasy of using alcohol to escape from life’s intense stress, she acknowledged its temporary effect but emphasized the futility of chasing that feeling, only to be left with life’s unresolved problems.
“There’s the fantasy of wanting to escape all the intense stress of the world with alcohol cause boy does it work temporarily. But there’s the moment the liquor stops numbing and you’re chasing that feeling to no avail and you wake to see the problems of life still there ❤️.”
In a heartfelt moment, Lennox reached out to her followers, asking if any of them are also sober and what they have learned through their own experiences. She expressed her love and gratitude to all her supporters.
Fellow R&B singers joined in congratulating Ari Lennox on this significant milestone. SZA, Michelle Williams, and Chloe Bailey all shared their admiration and support for her journey towards sobriety.
