“I fight fearlessly for our clients, no matter how powerful the opponent,” says Adam Hussain after securing order at Qatar International Court

Yorkshire-raised and London-trained advocate secures legal protection in a complex US – Qatar business dispute highlighted by KPMG Qatar.

A Yorkshire raised lawyer secured urgent interim protection for his client before the Qatar International Court in a high-value, cross-border shareholder dispute involving a prominent fintech business and a complex international investment history.

Adam Hussain, Director of Aldwych Legal, acted at the interim hearing in Doha, Qatar. Acting for an international investor, he fought the case for immediate court protection while the underlying shareholder issues remain to be determined. Following oral submissions and the presentation of the documentary record, the Court granted an order in his client’s favour.

“I fight fearlessly for our clients, no matter how powerful the opponent. A large balance sheet, an international financing profile or an impressive corporate name does not displace the need for evidence, careful preparation and a clear legal case. My responsibility was to protect the client’s position, and that is exactly what I went to Court to do.”
— Adam Hussain, Director, Aldwych Legal

Born and raised in Yorkshire, Hussain’s route to an international commercial courtroom has crossed three distinct legal environments: the United Kingdom, Australia and Qatar. His academic and professional development includes a bachelors of laws including time at Bond Unversity, Australia, a masters of laws in International Business Law from King’s College London, the Barrister Practice Course in London, and received a fully funded corporate-law funded study offer at the University of Cambridge. Hussain is also a PhD doctoral research candidate in law at Royal Holloway, University of London, and completing solicitor training in Sydney, Australia.

Hussain said: “I am proud of where I come from. Yorkshire taught me things nowhere else could; London sharpened my legal education; Australia broadened the way I think about life; and Qatar is now placing me in front of significant businesses disputes. This result is one stage in a much larger case, but it shows what disciplined preparation and fearless advocacy can achieve.”

The scale of the opponent’s public profile made the result particularly significant. The fintech business connected with the dispute had previously announced a QAR 190 million (US$50 million) share-subscription facility from GEM Global Yield, a Luxembourg-based private alternative investment group.

The facility was publicly reported as being available over a 36-month term following a public listing. KPMG Qatar later featured the company’s financing activity in its technology start-up investment roundups, including a 2022 report recording an increase in the GEM facility. Its independent market publication highlighted the financing announcement as part of Qatar’s start-up investment landscape. That distinction is important; it also illustrates the commercial scale and international visibility surrounding the dispute that Hussain was required to confront.

The proceedings concern disputed rights said to arise from signed share-transfer documentation and a contested holding of 125,000 shares. The case sits at the intersection of shareholder rights, contractual interpretation, corporate records, transfer restrictions and urgent interim relief. The Court’s present order is protective: it preserves the client’s position while the substantive dispute continues and does not amount to a final judgment on every issue in the proceedings.

His work has ranged from civil and commercial disputes to education, professional-negligence and pre-litigation strategy. He is now building his Qatari practice while continuing to direct Aldwych Legal’s London work and advance his Australian qualification pathway—a demanding international portfolio that has taken him from regional Yorkshire roots to advocacy before one of the Gulf’s leading specialist civil and commercial courts.

A result earned through preparation

The interim hearing required a tightly controlled presentation of the evidence. Hussain’s case focused on the signed instruments, the corporate approvals and records said to evidence the share position, the risk of prejudice if that position were left unprotected, and the need for an order narrow enough to preserve the disputed interest without obstructing ordinary business operations.

That approach—firm on protection, precise on scope—enabled the Court to address the immediate risk while leaving the contested merits for full determination. The result represents a meaningful procedural victory for the investor and a significant moment in Hussain’s developing international advocacy practice.
