Ashanti is overjoyed with her recent victory!
The 41-year-old singer was named Lady of Soul at the 2021 Soul Train Awards, according to Vibe. The annual event celebrated the best in African-American music and entertainment.

“I am so humbled and so blessed to be here—giving all praise to God,” Ashanti told the crowd.
“A lot of people thought that I wouldn’t make it this far […] some people may look at my journey and think it was easy. It was not,” she continued.
The musician added, “My career has been filled with so many peaks and valleys and it definitely wasn’t easy. I’ve been blessed to have broken records, won awards, and toured the world.”
She also discussed how she felt about winning the Aretha Franklin Entertainer Of The Year Award in 2002.
The New York native returned to the stage with Ja Rule and Fat Joe. Ashanti wore a pair of thigh-high boots from her collection with a sultry black bodysuit. She sang a medley of hits such as “Happy,” “Rain On Me,” “The Way That I Love You,” “Baby,” “Foolish,” “What’s Luv,” and “Always On Time.”
Ashanti also took to Instagram today to express her feelings about her recent award. She shared two photos of herself in a stunning black gown from her acceptance speech on stage.
“Once again it was a true honor. Such an incredibly humbling moment,” the “Coach Carter” star wrote in the caption.
She added, “My heart is overwhelmed with gratitude. It hits different when you receive the love from your people. Thank you so so much to everyone!!! My Amazing fans I wouldn’t be here with out you!!!”
