Britney Spears’ father has filed a petition to end the conservatorship that has controlled the singer’s life for the past 13 years.
On Tuesday, Jamie Spears, 69, filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court to end the legal arrangement. In 2008, Mr Spears established the conservatorship, which controls the popstar’s life and money.

Mr Spears expressed in a court filing that he believed the judge should “now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required.”
Fans of pop star are reacting to the news. With those behind the ongoing #FreeBritney campaign, which has long-sought to help Spears be released from her conservatorship, are rejoicing over the news as it appears an end is in sight.
“This is great news for the #FreeBritney movement and will create a much-needed dialogue on how conservatorships in America work,” fan Ryan Miller tweeted.
“Britney is going to be free after 13 years,” another wrote, while one fan commented: “Britney deserves to live independently.”
“It’s finally happening!” another fan tweeted.
The pop star’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart in a statement to SurgeZirc UK said the development was a “massive legal victory for Britney Spears” and “vindication”.
