Canada Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau has won a third term re-election bid, while his Liberal Party has failed to secure a majority, SurgeZirc UK reports.
The Liberal party won 156 seats, 14 seats shy of the number needed to clinch the majority, a nonetheless disappointing outcome for Trudeau whose government has continued to garner criticism in recent times.
The Conservatives have reportedly retained their status as the main opposition and are projected to win about 122 seats.
“There are still votes to be counted but what we’ve seen tonight is millions of Canadians have chosen a progressive plan,” said Trudeau in Montreal on Tuesday morning.

“You elected a government that will fight for you and deliver for you,” he said.
Held amid a fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, this year’s election was the most costly in Canada’s history, gulping about C$600m ($470m; £344m).
The expected results would see a parliament similar to the house elected in 2019.
The snap election which led to a second election in as many years had been widely questioned by critics who saw it as a desperate attempt by Trudeau to secure a majority government. Conservative leader Erin O’Toole had slammed it as a waste of time and money.
“Canadians sent him back with another minority at a cost of $600m and deeper divisions in our great country”, O’Toole told reporters.
However, Trudeau insisted that the election gave the incoming government clear mandate in moving forward.
Despite his own personal triumph, question marks are expected to trail Trudeau’s political future, even though MP Pablo Rodriguez had insisted yesterday that regardless of the outcome of the polls, he had “100% confidence” in him as Liberal Party leader.
“And all the members of the party do as well,” Rodriguez said.

Canada left-wing New Democrats (NDP), led by Jagmeet Singh looks to have picked up a few seats at the Parliament.
Counting of votes is expected to continue in the days to follow as elections officials tally the roughly one million mail-in ballots cast during the polls. Current seat tallies would also be finalised once the collation exercise is concluded definitively.
