MUMBAI: The stock market is slowly recovering after a crash. The market has been steadily rising for the last two days. The Sensex and Nifty closed higher. The Sensex gained 18 points to close at 218, while the Nifty jumped 216 points to close at 19. The biggest gainers in the Sensex were Tata Steel, Reliance, ITC, Wipro and ICICI Bank. The market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE today is Rs. 2.5 lakh crore. As a result, investors have invested Rs. 15 lakh crore earned. Earlier, the Sensex had opened 511 points, or 0.7 per cent, higher at 9 and the Nifty had opened 20 points higher at 1917. The biggest gainers were bank and metal stocks. The rupee fell 3 paise against the dollar to a record low of 6.5. In the Sensex, Tata Steel, Hindustan Unilever gained and NTPC, Power Grid stocks declined. The BSE Midcap closed at 200 with an increase of 3 points. The BSE Smallcap closed at 219 with an increase of 316 points. All 11 sectoral indices of the Nifty rose. The biggest gainer was Metal, which gained 2.4 per cent. Then there was the 4% increase in media. Banks, auto, financial services, IT and FMCG, on the other hand, were up 3 per cent, while realty and pharma stocks were up more than 1 per cent.
