Odisha: Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra starts every year on the second tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashad month. The world famous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath has started in Puri, Odisha. Lord Jagannath, sister Subhadra and brother Balabhadra have embarked on a chariot to the city. A tight police presence has been arranged in this yatra. Lakhs of devotees from all over the country have reached Puri.
This journey starts from the second tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashad month and continues till the tenth of Ashad Shukla. Devotees from all over the country and the world come to Puri in large numbers to see this chariot and seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath. This time also thousands of devotees have flocked to the pilgrimage town of Puri. Adequate security arrangements have been made in this regard.
Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur said that 180 troops of security forces have been deployed in Puri. The city is divided into different zones and divisions for traffic management. Coast Guard helicopters have also been deployed for beach patrolling.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also tweeted greetings to the people.
Till July 2, the interceptor boat will be stationed at Paradip, a senior official said. A total of 125 special trains will run during the festival. Also, with the help of drone cameras, a large number of CCTV cameras will keep a watch during the Rath Yatra. Ranjan Kumar Das, chief administrator of the Jagannath temple administration, said around one million people are expected to visit Puri when the chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Jagannath are pulled towards the Gundicha temple. Devotees from all over the country and even from abroad are availing Darshan in large numbers.
