New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in America late on Tuesday night on a three-day visit. He was received at New York’s John F Kennedy Airport by US Chief Protocol Officer Rufus Giffords, India’s Ambassador to the UN Ruchira Kamboj and India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu. People of Indian origin were also present to welcome Prime Minister Modi.
Along with Prime Minister Modi, a team of ministers and a trade delegation will also go to America. The delegation will have people from various fields like IT, Defence, Aviation and Artificial Intelligence.
While the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in the team of ministers is considered certain. Defense, technology, strategic and business deals will take place between India and the US during this visit. Prime Minister Modi will also meet the CEOs of 20 American companies.
How important this visit of Prime Minister Modi is, it can be estimated from the fact that within 15 days of the departure of the Prime Minister, 2 big American leaders have come to India.
Bilateral trade between India and the US has crossed $128 billion in the fiscal year 2022-2023. That is, in this interval, India and America did business of more than 10 lakh crore rupees.
The US is one of the few countries with which India has a trade surplus. That means India sells more goods to America and buys less goods from there. India had a trade surplus of $32.8 billion with the US in 2021-22. India wants to maintain this trade surplus. PM’s visit is important in this context.
Strategically and diplomatically, this visit is also very special. In fact, the concerns of India and America are almost the same on the issue of China. While India opposes Chinese interference in LAC and Indian Ocean.
At the same time, the US also opposes China’s intrusion attempts in Taiwan and the South China Sea. Both countries need each other to deal with China in such a situation. Apart from this, on this visit of the Prime Minister, India is likely to get 11 technologies from the US to make the world’s most advanced MQ-9 drone and fighter jet engine.
