“Happy birthday to my best friend forever. I’ll never love anyone as much as I love you, @finneas. You are the best thing in my life,” Eilish, aged 21, captioned the touching image.
Eilish has frequently expressed how vital her big brother is to her music career. The talented siblings have collaboratively released two No. 1 albums: “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” in 2019 and “Happier Than Ever” in 2021. Their combined efforts have earned them multiple Grammy awards and even an Academy Award.
In July, Eilish revealed that she had been facing a period of self-doubt that extended beyond writer’s block. However, it was during this challenging time that she and Finneas found inspiration for their contribution to the Barbie soundtrack, “What I Was Made For?”
Speaking to Apple Music 1 host Zane Lowe and coinciding with the release of the self-directed music video for the song, Eilish disclosed that the breakthrough came when Finneas found the solution to their writing frustrations.
“Finneas has always been the one that’s like, ‘No, no, no, let’s write. Let’s write.’ And honestly, we were in a period of time where we were both incredibly uninspired,” Eilish explained. “And we’ve still been working and trying to make stuff. And honestly, that song was the first thing we’d written in a minute.”
Recently, Finneas also opened up about the challenges of living in the spotlight during an interview on iHeartRadio’s Song Stories podcast.
“Billie gets to play these arenas and whatever, but her day-to-day life is more challenging than mine,” he told host Jordan Runtagh. “I can walk down the street, go to a grocery store, and sit at a coffee shop without any hindrance. Maybe a kid or two comes up to me and says, ‘Hey, I love you,’ or something, but it’s not a challenge.”
Finneas expressed that he has no desire to attain the same level of fame and recognition as his sister and would willingly avoid it if possible.
Nonetheless, he acknowledges that a certain level of notoriety is necessary to reach a broader audience with his music.
“I’m proud of my music. I want to promote it. I want it to be heard by as many people as possible. And if the consequence of that is becoming more famous, I’m willing to accept it,” he said. “Many people aspire to fame, but I have no desire to be any more famous than I currently am. It just seems like a huge burden.”
