DEAR DEIDRE: MY fiancée thinks I cheated after I met an old girlfriend for coffee.
She won’t let it go even though I have told her that nothing happened.
I’m a man of 31, my partner is 28. We have been together for three years and have a good relationship, or so I thought.
We have bought a flat together and have been busy preparing for married life.
I met an old girlfriend who I haven’t seen for a long time.
We had been together for two years, but the split was amicable, we drifted apart.

It was just coffee and a catch up. I told my fiancée about it, but she has got it into her head that I cheated.
I am not like that, and I would never betray her.
She is having real trouble believing me and I am starting to worry she’ll never trust me.
MORE FROM DEAR DEIDRE
DEIDRE SAYS: She does sound insecure but seeing your ex was bound to make her suspicious.
Reassure her that your relationship is your priority now and your ex is history.
If her trust has been damaged in the past, she may be scared history will repeat itself?
This fear of being hurt is a self-defence mechanism telling us that it might happen again.
If so, tell her that she needs to tackle her insecurity or risk pushing you away.
You should both read my support pack Coping With Jealousy, which explains more.
