MATALAN shoppers are rushing to buy a bargain winter gadget to avoid putting the heating on – and it costs just 24p to run.

And temperatures are beginning to fall in many areas, with Storm Babet set to batter Britain in the coming days.
The king-sized Silentnight White Comfort Control Electric Blanket is available from Matalan for just £28 – down from £35.
And the single-sized version os available elsewhere for just £20 – £5 cheaper than the normal price.
The product description says: “Ensure a toasty feel on a chilly winter evening with this white electric blanket from Silentnight.
“The energy-saving design features 3 heat settings so you can easily customise your comfort.
“Finished with elasticated straps and heat protection for peace of mind, it’s a simple must for staving off the cold weather.”
A lot of people use electric blankets under their sheets to heat their bed before they get in it.
According to research from Uswitch, these gadgets use 100 watts of energy to warm a double bed before switching to a sleep setting or being turned off.
A 100W electric blanket run for seven hours a week would use 0.7kWh.
Based on the current cap, it costs 24p to run a 100W electric blanket for one hour a day for seven days.
If you were to use an electric blanket for one hour a day, every day of the week for a year, it would cost you £12.48 in total.
