Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to Chatham FCs ground On Sunday 26th November after the match referee locked themselves in a toilet.
The Women’s FA Cup game between Chatham Town and AFC Wimbledon on Sunday was delayed by half an hour after the official was left stuck inside a cubicle at the Bauvill Stadium.
The match was due to kick off at 1pm and the two teams were ready to walk out onto the pitch when they noticed that the referee was missing. The crowd were quickly informed of a delay, and the story began to take share when the fire brigade turned up.
The female referee had requested separate facilities to the male officials she was working alongside and given a changing room to use, with its own toilet facility, which she locked and couldn’t then open.
The quick response ensured the referee was extracted from the toilet without injury and the match was able to commence soon after.
The toilet incident wasn’t the only drama at the ground, as Chatham Town won the match 5-4, with a last-minute penalty. We bet the Wimbledon players wish they had left the referee locked in the toilet!
