FANS of a popular TV series are “up in arms” as the streaming app hosting the show has announced it is closing down.
Lionsgate+ recently revealed that it will be leaving the UK market for good.
But now the company has shared a shutdown date and details of how affected customers can claim a refund.
Despite being a smaller player against the likes of Netflix and Disney+, Lionsgate+ was particularly liked by fans of Outlander.
The historical drama, starring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, is set to air the second part of season seven in 2024.
But viewers of the series fear they’ll have nowhere to watch it.
Many are hoping another site will swoop in and pick up Outlander, which has been renewed for an eighth final season.
Other well-known shows that appear on the service include Power Book III, The Great, and Station Eleven.
“Fans of Outlander, in the UK are up in arms, about the closing down of Lionsgate+uk and the pulling out of Starz in the UK Jan.2024,” one user wrote.
“How will we watch Outlander!!! Best show on the screen and not able to see 2nd half of S7 let alone final S8?”
Another asked: “Lionsgate+ is closing down in the UK in early 2024.
“Can you advise where I will be able to watch Outlander when it shuts down?”
A third added: “Now that Lionsgate is closing, where will we be able to watch Outlander in the UK.”
The move comes after another streaming service, Peacock, announced that it is leaving Sky – though most of the shows on the platform are available elsewhere.
When is Lionsgate+ closing down?
Lionsgate has started informing users that Lionsgate+ will close down on February 29, 2024.
Customers will receive a prorated refund for any days left on their subscription.
“We regret to inform you that we are discontinuing the LIONSGATE+ streaming service in your country,” the firm said.
“Your subscription will be automatically canceled on February 29, 2024.
“You will receive a prorated refund of your current subscription fee and you will not be charged anything else.
“There is no action you need to take.
“You can continue to access the LIONSGATE+ service until February 29, 2024.”
