A campaign group in opposition to a proposed solar farm development that threatens the green belt land in New Ash Green, Ridley, and surrounding areas is looking for support.
The new development not only compromises the natural beauty and environmental value of our countryside but also risks the loss of valuable farmland, which has been a vital part of our local heritage and economy for generations.
Evolution Power is proposing the massive solar and battery installation on land between New Ash Green and Ridley. If approved, this project would drastically alter the landscape, turning it into an industrial eyesore and diminishing the unique historical character of the Kent countryside.
The proposed site for the solar farm is Ridley Court Farm, and if given approval, dairy cattle grazing will be lost! The footpaths and bridleways used frequently would be overshadowed by tens of thousands of 3.5-meter-high solar panels sprawling across fields that once provided a refuge for nature and walkers.
This industrial-scale installation would cover a staggering 235 acres – equivalent to 150 football pitches. This development offers little to the local community; it primarily benefits a select few while harming our environment.
Campaigners have provided a few ways in which you can help. Donations to fund the professional engagements to fight the solar farm are the most pressing need, but they also need volunteers to help us raise awareness, and to undertake information gathering activities.
There is also a petition which you can find here.
The campaign groups website can be found here.
