Sevenoaks District Council have been installing new average speed cameras along the stretch of the A20.
The section of road is known as Gorse Hill and is between Braeside surgery up to the Kings roundabout. The speed of this section of road is now fixed at 40mph. Work began on Thursday 7th November and was completed over the weekend. There are now numerous signs showing the new speed limit and there are three huge yellow camera posts.
Locals have been left shocked by the lack of any consultation by the council, as to the new speed restrictions on a section of road that is not particularly dangerous. The biggest risk is running water across the road after heavy rain, but if you drive sensibly then this should not be an issue.
One resident said “It looks like health and safety has gone mad again. I have driven this road for many years and can see so reason why the speed has now been reduced to 40mph. It makes you wonder if its another opportunity for the council to make money – especially if they can get catch people coming out of Brands Hatch who are unaware of the changes”.
