A double-decker school bus was evacuated after it erupted into flames During the school run on Monday morning. Pupils were evacuated from the bus before emergency services arrived at the scene. There were no reported injuries.
The Stagecoach vehicle caught fire in St Stephen’s Road, Canterbury, at about 9am causing congestion in the surrounding area.
Fire, ambulance, police and Kent Highways officers were in attendance.
A Stagecoach spokesman confirmed the bus involved was the school-time route 914 service travelling into Canterbury.
“The incident occurred at about 8.20am this morning after the bus had dropped students off at the Archbishop’s School. Safety is our highest priority and the remaining students on board were immediately evacuated before any fire was detected.A full investigation is underway.”
The route was blocked with traffic queueing between Hales Drive / St Stephen’s Green and Broad Oak Road.
The road reopened shortly before 11am.
