In a recent election night watch party, Nikki Haley, despite facing an embarrassing home-state loss, expressed her determination to stand in the way of Donald Trump’s romp to the Republican presidential nomination. Haley firmly believes that Trump will lose in November and therefore plans to continue her campaign.
Addressing her supporters, Nikky Haley reiterated her stance, stating, “I don’t believe Donald Trump can beat Joe Biden.” She further argued that her performance in the race so far foreshadows potential problems for Trump’s general election campaign.
Although the exact vote share for Nikky Haley is still uncertain, projections suggest that she has won approximately 39% of the ballots cast.
Haley emphasized, “Nearly every day Trump drives people away. Today we’re getting 40% of the vote, which is about what we got in New Hampshire. I know 40% isn’t 50%, but it also represents a significant portion of voters in our Republican primary who are seeking an alternative.”
Looking ahead, Haley revealed her plans to campaign in Michigan, which is scheduled to hold its primary on Tuesday. Despite the South Carolina race being called for Trump by CNN before her watch party had even begun, Haley’s supporters remained enthusiastic and undeterred by the current state of the race.
Rachel Geilenfeld, who led the Women for Haley coalition in Iowa, expressed her belief in Haley’s message and leadership, stating, “I think that everybody here really believes in her message and leadership and that it’s time to turn the page on leadership in this country.”
Geilenfeld firmly believes that Haley should stay in the race as long as she deems it necessary. Another attendee, Patricia Thompson, a lifelong Republican, urged Haley to continue her campaign to make a moral case against Trump.
Thompson also suggested that Haley’s presence could serve as a fallback option for the Republicans if Trump is somehow forced to withdraw due to his legal issues.
Thompson expressed her disdain for Trump, saying, “No reason for her not to — hope he chokes on a sandwich. Even if there’s nothing this time, it gives hope.” She further added, “My hope is, if he wins, she sticks it out and comes back next year. Trump had better go to jail.”
Nikki Haley’s determination to challenge Trump’s presidential nomination remains unwavering. Despite facing setbacks and a loss in her home state, she firmly believes that Trump’s divisive approach will hinder his chances of winning in November.
As she continues her campaign, Nikky Haley seeks to offer an alternative option to the Republican primary voters who are looking for a different leadership style and vision for the future.
