This week, a fiery exchange erupted in the European Parliament when Anders Vistisen, a Danish lawmaker, delivered an unfiltered message to U.S. President Donald Trump about his revived interest in acquiring Greenland.
“Dear President Trump, listen very carefully,” Vistisen began. “Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It is not for sale.”
However, he didn’t stop there. With a dramatic flourish, Vistisen added, “Let me put it in words you might understand: Mr. Trump, f**k off!”

A Heated Response from Parliament Leadership
The blunt language didn’t go unnoticed. Nicolae Ștefănuță, Vice President of the European Parliament, swiftly rebuked Vistisen.
“If the translation was correct, the term you used is not allowed in this house and there will be consequences,” Ștefănuță said. “This is a house of democracy, and such language is unacceptable, regardless of our opinions of Mr. Trump.”
Vistisen didn’t seem very apologetic as he posted his message on X, complete with the rebuke:
Greenland is not for sale. Greenland has been part of Denmark for 800 years, more then double of the time the US has existed.

Trump’s Persistent Greenland Ambitions
Trump’s fascination with Greenland dates back to his first term in 2019, when he referred to its ownership as a “large real estate deal” and claimed it was financially draining Denmark.
Since his re-election in 2024, Trump has doubled down, calling Greenland an “absolute necessity” for the United States and refusing to rule out more forceful means to acquire it.
Greenland, home to 56,000 residents, and Danish officials have consistently rejected the idea. “It is not for sale,” they’ve reiterated, dismissing Trump’s claims that Greenlanders would welcome statehood.
