Terror funding funded to create unrest Malik’s sentence set for May 16

Yasin Malik, a separatist leader accused of providing terror funding to create unrest in Kashmir, has pleaded guilty in Patiala House Court. Yasin Malik told the court that he did not deny the allegations of terror funding, being a member of a terrorist group, conspiracy and treason. Following Yasin’s statement, Special Judge Praveen Singh has fixed May 16 for the sentencing of Yasin Malik. During Tuesday’s hearing, the court formally determined the charges against all the other defendants in the case. The accused were identified as Hafiz Saeed, Syed Salahuddin, Shabbir Shah, Masrat Alam, Rashid Engineer, Zahoor Ahmed Watali, Bitta Karate, Aftab Ahmed Shah, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Naeem Khan, Bashir Ahmed Butt. According to the NIA report, organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hizbul Mujahideen, JKLF, Jaish-e-Mohammed, in collaboration with Pakistan’s intelligence agency Angie, carried out attacks and violence on civilians and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the NIA, Hafiz Saeed, along with the leaders of the Hurriyat Conference, exchanged funds to carry out terrorist activities through hawala and other channels. The money was used to spread unrest in the valley, to attack security forces, to set fire to schools and to damage public property. After receiving the notification from the Home Ministry, the NIA had filed cases under sections 120B, 161, 181A of the Indian Penal Code and sections 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 6, 7 and 80 of the UAPA.
