After starting at the red mark, both stock market indices closed higher on Thursday. The Sensex gained 7 points, or 0.6 per cent, to close at 8,619, while the Nifty rose 104 points, or 0.2 per cent, to close at 12.5. On Thursday, the fourth trading day of the week, the stock market recovered from a two-day low. Both indices started with a break, but finally closed at the green mark after one day of trading. The 30-share Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange rose by 9 points, or 0.6 per cent, to close at 7,619, while the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed at 13.5, up 102 points or 0.6 per cent. The Nifty opened 5 points lower at 19.30. At the same time, the market closed lower in the last trading session. The BSE Sensex was down 19 points at 9,31 and the NSE Nifty was down 3 points at 12,9. Meanwhile, the rupee continued to weaken against the dollar. At the close of trade on Thursday, the rupee had lost 10 paise to close at 8.30 against the US dollar.
