That being said, the AICPI index declined for three consecutive months in January and February, but then rebounded in March. The index had fallen to 12.1 in January. In February, it fell further to 12 points. However, then in March it increased by 1 point to 18 with a single tweak. This has led to speculation that the inflation allowance will be increased once again. With the AICPI index rising in March, people are hoping that the inflation allowance could rise by 3 per cent again in July. Inflation allowances are revised based on the AICPI index. The DA component has been added to the salaries / pensions of government employees and pensioners to protect them from inflation.
