The central government has made a big announcement in the interest of farmers. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said in a cabinet briefing that the government has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for various kharif crops for the year 205-2. MSP of kharif crops for the year 205-2 will now increase. Thakur informed that the Cabinet has increased the MSP of paddy by Rs. The decision was approved at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the meteorological department has forecast that the southwest monsoon of 207 will be normal at 3% of the long-term average. Better-than-normal monsoon in the last three years has increased kharif foodgrain production by an average of 7.5 per cent, which could lead to an increase in kharif production by 7.5 per cent, while sun production has increased by 1.2 per cent. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters that MSPs of 12 kharif crops have been approved in today’s cabinet meeting. MSP of common variety of paddy was Rs. 1,50 to Rs. 3,050 per quintal. The support price of ‘A’ grade variety of paddy has been increased from Rs. 1,50 to Rs. 2,050 per quintal. Paddy is the main crop of kharif, sowing has started. The meteorological department has forecast normal monsoon for June-September. Minister Anurag Thakur has also emphasized on the various programs launched by the Modi government in the last eight years to increase the income of farmers and ensure all round development of the agricultural sector. Even before the onset of monsoon, there is good news for farmers. The government has given green light to the proposal to increase the minimum support price (MSP) for kharif crops. The proposal was approved at a meeting of the Central Government’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday. The government has decided to increase the MSP of kharif crops for the year 205-2. The decisions taken in the cabinet were announced in detail at a press conference at 6 pm. According to sources, MSP of kharif crop may increase from 5 to 20% for the year 205-2. After the cabinet decision, MSP of kharif crops i.e. paddy and soybean will be increased. The Cabinet also approved a proposal to increase the MSP of maize. MSP is likely to increase the most this time after the 2016-17 season. In addition to paddy, soybean and maize, increase in support prices of groundnut, tur, mug, jowar, bajra and ragi will be approved. A total of 17 MSPs have been increased this season. MSP stands for Minimum Support Price. The minimum price of cereals or other food grains is the price at which the government buys crops from farmers or the minimum price offered by the government to farmers for their crops is MSP. The main purpose of determining the MSP of the crop is to provide any minimum support price to the farmers. Twice a year in Ravi and Kharif seasons the minimum support price is announced by the government on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Expenditure and Prices (CACP). The Sugarcane Commission determines the support price of sugarcane.
