Rahul Gandhi’s statement recorded under Section 30 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case. Rahul reached the ED headquarters at APJ Abdul Kalam Road at around 11.30 am. The news agency quoted ED sources as saying that Gandhi’s statement was recorded under Section 30 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). In the first round, Rahul was interrogated for more than three hours. After which they were allowed to go out for lunch. Meanwhile, Rahul along with his sister Priyanka reached Sir Gangaram Hospital to see his mother Sonia Gandhi. Sonia was admitted to the hospital on Sunday due to problems related to Kovid-12. The ED has also summoned him for questioning. Rahul was questioned by officials at the level of Deputy Director, Assistant Director, ED. According to sources, in the phased inquiry, the ED first asked Rahul personal questions. Then there were questions about property and financial transactions. Rahul’s further inquiries also included questions regarding Young India and the Associated Journals Limited. How much property do you have in India and where? How many bank accounts do you have? Which bank account do you have? How much money is in it?
Have a bank account abroad? How much is deposited in it? Do you have any property abroad? If yes, where is it? How did you join Young Indian? The ED seeks to understand Rahul’s question-and-answer pattern of partnership, financial transactions and the role of promoters of Young Indian and Associated Journals Limited (AJL). Rahul Gandhi’s establishment of the Young Indian, the operation of the National Herald and the alleged transfer of funds could be questioned. Young Indian’s promoters and shareholders include Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and several other members of Congress. Priyanka was present in the car with Rahul when he left home for the ED office. She also spent some time at the ED headquarters. When Rahul’s interrogation started, Priyanka came out and went to Tughlaq Road police station where the protesting Congressmen were kept. Congress leaders Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary and Casey Venugopal were detained by the police and taken to Tughlaq Road police station. Party’s Dipendra S Hooda and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot were also taken into custody and taken to Fatehpur police station. Congress leaders Rajni Patil, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, L Hanumantaiya and Tirunavukkarsar Su. He was detained at Mandir Marg PS for protesting in support of Rahul Gandhi.
