Heavy rains continue in Assam Two minors were buried alive in a landslide in Assam’s Gowalpara district today due to continuous rains. Rescuers then pulled the bodies of both children out of the rubble. The incident took place this morning in Gowalpari. It has been raining continuously in Assam for the last several days. In the last 3 days, 4 people have died. SDRF team today recovered the bodies of two children from Gowalpara. The northeastern states are facing continuous rains these days. Due to continuous rains in Meghalaya, part of National Highway 8 in Lumshanong area was destroyed. Traffic in some parts of northeastern Central India is currently closed due to the collapse of the National Highway. This National Highway connects parts of southern Assam, Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur with other parts of the country. That being said, the supply of essential items in the area could be disrupted if transport on this highway is not resumed soon. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will today hold a meeting with a team of officials on measures to deal with the crisis caused by the floods in Assam. Due to continuous rains in Assam, the water level of Dihing river has suddenly risen. As a result, part of a bridge in Subankhata area of Baksa district has collapsed on June 15. The collapse of the bridge has made it difficult for people to get around. It may be mentioned here that the weather is changing in many parts of the country these days. The maximum temperature in the national capital dropped below 4 degrees Celsius after light rains overnight. According to a meteorological department spokesperson, the maximum rainfall of 41 mm was recorded in Ajmer’s Mangliawas till 9.30 am on Wednesday.
