Floods and landslides following heavy rains have wreaked havoc in the northeastern region. Millions of people in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh have been affected by the floods. Many people have become homeless, crops have been destroyed, roads have been damaged and rail services have been affected. So the death toll due to floods is also increasing. People are facing many difficulties in the face of natural calamities. People are currently spending their days in relief camps started by the government. Floods and landslides have killed 21 people in Assam and Meghalaya in the last two days. A boat carrying pre-affected people sank in Hojai district, leaving three children missing and 21 others rescued. A fisherman has died after drowning in Imphal West district, according to a report by the Department of Relief and Rescue. The number of flood-damaged houses in the state has increased to six. Floods in Mizoram have so far displaced 108 families. Officials from the state’s Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department said on June 15. The worst affected is Lunglei district in southern Mizoram. Talabung village and nearby villages are in the grip of floods. Mausinram and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya have received record rainfall since 190, officials said. This is the third highest rainfall in Agartala in the last 20 years, government sources said. All educational institutions have been closed due to sudden floods. The Chief Minister of Meghalaya has announced Rs 4 lakh assistance to the families of those killed in the floods.
