Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev meets Lithuania Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis
Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Lithuania has more than doubled (2.1 fold) in 2022, reaching over $500 million in 9 months. 170 Lithuanian companies currently work in Kazakhstan and dozens of Kazakh companies operate in Lithuania. These figures were revealed by Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mukhtar Tileuberdi, during an official visit of Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, to Astana.
Lithuania is among the 10 largest trade partners of Kazakhstan in the EU and one of the top 20 in the world, even despite global disruptions in logistics chains. The countries work jointly in many spheres, starting from professional pilots’ training to medical equipment manufacturing. Kazakh Foreign Minister Tileuberdi emphasized that the countries have always sustained a trust-based dialogue at all levels instrumental in strengthening the relations and cooperation.
These relations have been developing since the signing of a treaty between the countries in 1993. Tileuberdi also pointed out that Lithuania was one of the first countries in 2016 to ratify the EU-Kazakhstan Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement underpinning Kazakhstan’s cooperation with EU member states in 29 areas.
In his visit to Astana, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister also met with Kazakhstan’s head of state, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The two discussed the development of bilateral relations, strengthening trade, and investment cooperation. President Tokayev said that Lithuania is a priority partner of Kazakhstan in the Baltic region and in the European Union, and minister Landsbergis stressed that Lithuania considers Kazakhstan a leading trade and economic partner in Central Asia. The leaders agreed to intensify intergovernmental cooperation and expand the business circles of the two countries in the fields of transport and logistics, construction, and manufacturing.
