In a passionate outburst during the alliance’s annual summit, Zelensky accused Western leaders of freezing him out of crucial discussions and denounced the lack of readiness for his country’s membership.

While Rishi Sunak, the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, emphasized the need for “demonstrable progress” on Ukraine’s pathway to NATO membership, other leaders, including Joe Biden, appeared more hesitant, suggesting that Ukraine’s inclusion would be a distant prospect.
During the summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, Zelensky made his presence felt even before his arrival, taking to Twitter to launch a scathing attack on the situation.
He stressed that Ukraine deserved respect and expressed his concern that discussions about accession were being held without the active involvement of Ukraine.
Zelensky criticized the lack of a defined time frame for the invitation to join NATO, calling it unprecedented and absurd. He also expressed disappointment at the addition of vague conditions for inviting Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, the absence of clear progress in Ukraine’s NATO membership creates a bargaining chip for Russia and encourages its continued aggression.
Zelensky warned that the uncertainty surrounding Ukraine’s membership strengthens Russia’s position and motivates their acts of terror.
