Meta’s most popular platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Threads, and Messenger, are gradually coming back online after experiencing significant “technical issues” that disrupted services for several hours on Wednesday.
“We’re 99% of the way there—just doing some last checks,” the company wrote on X (formerly Twitter), almost four hours after it first acknowledged the outages.
Although Meta did not provide details about the root cause of the issues, users began to see services return to normal as of late Wednesday afternoon.

As of 4:30 PM PT, Meta’s status dashboard showed some “major disruptions” remained for its business and transparency tools, but most of the core services—including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, and Messenger—were either “resolved” or “recovering.”
We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.

Earlier in the day, over 90,000 reports of issues were filed for Facebook alone on Downdetector, as users on platforms like X and Bluesky shared their frustrations with problems loading Meta’s apps.
For a brief period, even Meta’s website displayed a “This page isn’t available right now” message. When Engadget reached out for comment, Meta confirmed the problem was related to “a technical issue impacting some users’ ability to access our apps.”
This marks the second significant outage Meta has faced this year. The previous major disruption in March 2024 left users without access to the company’s services for nearly two hours.
As with the current issue, Meta attributed the March outage to a “technical issue,” a term it has again used to explain the ongoing disruptions.
Meta’s apps appear to be stabilizing, but users are still waiting for full resolution.
