U.S. President Donald Trump confronted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a contentious White House meeting, warning him that he was “gambling with World War Three.”
The meeting, which was intended to advance discussions on a ceasefire with Russia and a potential U.S.-Ukraine mineral deal, instead devolved into a heated exchange, leading to the abrupt cancellation of a planned joint press conference and official agreements.

As tensions escalated, U.S. Vice President JD Vance criticized Zelenskyy for raising disagreements publicly, while Trump accused him of disrespecting the U.S. for its extensive support.
“You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people,” Trump told Zelenskyy. “You’re gambling with World War Three, and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to this country that’s backed you more than many think it should have.”

Fallout: Lunch Abandoned and Diplomacy Derailed
Following the fiery exchange, lunch between the two delegations was hastily called off, and untouched plates of food were cleared away.
Reports suggest that Trump ultimately asked Zelenskyy to leave the White House, signaling a major diplomatic rift. The much-anticipated mineral deal between the two nations now remains in limbo.
Undeterred, Zelenskyy took to social media to express gratitude to the American people, Congress, and the Biden administration. “Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
In an interview following the meeting, Zelenskyy acknowledged the sharp differences between himself and Trump but stopped short of apologizing, instead urging the former U.S. president to take a stronger stance against Russian aggression.

“I want him to be more on our side,” he said, emphasizing that Russia had brought the war to Ukraine and that no compromises should be made with Vladimir Putin.
Global Reactions and the Path Forward
The fallout from the meeting prompted a swift response from European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who reaffirmed their support for Ukraine.
As the diplomatic dust settles, Zelenskyy is set to meet with European allies in an upcoming summit hosted by the UK to discuss potential security measures for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Trump doubled down on his stance, posting on his Truth Social platform that Zelenskyy was “not ready for peace” and had disrespected the Oval Office. “He can come back when he is ready for peace,” Trump declared.
With the war ongoing and diplomatic tensions at an all-time high, the question remains: can the fractured relationship between Trump and Zelenskyy be mended, or is this the beginning of a deeper divide in U.S.-Ukraine relations?
