Russian War: Ukrainian Kamikaze Drone Swarm Blitzes Putin Base Near Moscow, Prompting Closure Of Major Airport’s Airspace Over Aerial Threat

Reports indicate that Ukraine has launched a kamikaze drone attack on a military base located in close proximity to Moscow.

Gripping footage captures the sight of thick black smoke billowing into the air following the strike on the significant Kubinka military air base, situated approximately 48 miles southwest of the Kremlin.

The targeted building, housing strike aircraft and an air force display team, sustained structural damage, although no casualties have been reported. The destruction is believed to have been inflicted after the drone was brought down by air defense systems.

The suspected Ukrainian assault, accompanied by a series of aerial attacks, has compelled a major airport in the area, frequented by Vladimir Putin, to shut down its airspace.

As a result of the continuing threat posed by exploding drones, at least ten domestic and international flights were diverted from Vnukovo airport.

This airport is routinely used by government officials, including Putin and VIPs, and the decision to close the airport for arrivals appears to have been a precautionary measure.

Russia’s Federal Agency for Air Transport explained that restrictions on the acceptance and release of aircraft were implemented at Vnukovo due to technical reasons unrelated to the airport.

These restrictions remained in effect until 8:00 in the morning, although other airports in Moscow and the surrounding region continued to operate normally.

The airbase which is only 48 miles from Moscow was hit in a drone attack

It is important to note that the drones are not believed to have struck the territory of Vnukovo airport. However, in a separate incident, a Ukrainian Valkyrja strike drone was reportedly shot down in the Belgorod border region, along with a Leleka-100 reconnaissance drone.

Russian air defenses allegedly electronically jammed and downed at least five drones. Captivating footage depicts a garage engulfed in flames after one of the jammed drones crashed into it and detonated in the village of Krivosheino.

Eyewitnesses in the Kaluga region reported the presence of two drones flying towards Moscow at an altitude of approximately 700ft. One drone exhibited a black color and had a wingspan of around 10ft, while the other was smaller and grayish in appearance. Additional drones were described as resembling helicopters.

These drone attacks, which occurred between 4:00 am and 6:30 am local time, have been labeled by Russia as a Ukrainian “terrorist attack.” Sergey Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow and a close associate of Putin, remarked, “Today there was another attempted attack by Ukrainian drones in New Moscow and Moscow Region.

So far, the attacks have been repelled by air defense forces, and all detected UAVs have been eliminated. For security reasons, some flights have been temporarily diverted from Vnukovo Airport.” He reassured the public that no casualties had been reported and that emergency services were actively addressing the situation.

In recent months, Russia has witnessed a surge in drone attacks, with the most recent occurrence taking place near Moscow last month. The target of that attack was the facilities of the 15th Motor Rifle Brigade of the Taman division in the village of Kalininets.

In May, a wave of drone attacks targeted a Russian oil depot, resulting in a massive blaze. The inferno at the port of Taman spanned an area of nearly 13,000 square feet, with approximately 85 firefighters battling the flames.
