Hold on to your lasagna, folks! The world’s most sarcastic yet endearing orange feline is back, and this time he’s voiced by none other than the talented Chris Pratt.
In the trailer for “The Garfield Movie,” set to premiere in theatres on Feb. 16, 2024, Pratt embodies the lovable fat cat we all know and love.
But that’s not all! The new animated feature introduces some exciting new characters to comic creator Jim Davis’ universe.

One of the most notable additions is Samuel L. Jackson, who lends his voice to Garfield’s father, Vic. Both Pratt and Jackson have been honing their voice acting chops, with Jackson previously playing another animated cat in “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank,” and Pratt taking on the iconic role of Mario in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
In the trailer, Pratt’s Garfield explains how he came to adopt his owner, John. But before he indulges in a tray of lasagna (because what’s a Garfield movie without lasagna?), he humorously warns the audience, “I apologise in advance.
“The eating you’re about to see will not be pretty. And if you have young children, this would be a good time for them to leave the room.”
This new “Garfield” film is the latest instalment in the franchise to hit the big screen. Bill Murray previously starred as the titular character in “Garfield: The Movie” in 2004, as well as its sequel “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties” in 2006.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, both the live-action and CGI-hybrid films enjoyed commercial success.
The “Garfield” franchise has also inspired a range of direct-to-video movies, including “Garfield Gets Real” and “Garfield’s Fun Fest,” as well as the beloved animated series “Garfield and Friends” and “The Garfield Show.”
Behind the scenes, the talented Mark Dindal, known for directing films like “Chicken Little” and “Emperor’s New Groove,” takes the helm as the director of “Garfield.” The script is penned by David Reynolds, who previously worked on the hit film “Finding Nemo.”
Produced by Columbia Pictures and financed by Alcon Entertainment, the company that owns the rights to the “Garfield” comic series and brand, this new animated feature is set to be a purr-fectly delightful addition to the franchise. Sony Pictures will handle global distribution, excluding China.

Comic creator Jim Davis himself serves as executive producer, alongside Bridget McMeel and Craig Sost. The film’s producers include John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Namit Malhotra, and Tom Jacomb.
So mark your calendars and get ready to join Garfield, voiced by the hilarious Chris Pratt, on his latest adventure. With a star-studded cast, witty dialogue, and plenty of lasagna, “The Garfield Movie” is sure to bring feline fun to the big screen like never before.
