Kate, the Princess of Wales, was admitted to The London Clinic hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace has announced. She will remain an inpatient for up to two weeks, but the spokesperson said the surgery was a success.
It is understood that the planned operation was not related to cancer, and the Wales family has asked for their privacy to be respected.
Kate is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter, the official statement said, and Prince William has canceled some royal engagements to look after their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

The Prince of Wales will continue to focus on his family during the immediate period following her return home. Any planned royal tours, such as their upcoming trip to Rome, have been canceled.
Kensington Palace said in a statement: “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.
“The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in the hospital for ten to fourteen days before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.
The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible and her wish that her personal medical information remain private.
Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.
The Princess of Wales wishes to apologize to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
When she is discharged from the London hospital, Kate is likely to return to her family home in Windsor to continue her recovery. The family of five currently lives at Adelaide Cottage.
