Nigerian singer-songwriter Davido has recently announced that he is taking legal action against the publication of an April Fools article that falsely claimed he had been arrested for drug offences.
The popular Afrobeats singer, aged 31, expressed his frustration in a statement, stating that he had received an overwhelming number of calls after the article went viral.
Davido strongly criticized the fabrication of such serious allegations, emphasizing that regardless of the nature of April Fools’ Day, spreading false information about international crimes is extremely irresponsible.

He asserted that the reports were entirely untrue and clarified that he had already returned home to Nigeria after performing in Uganda and Kenya.
Addressing the false claims, Davido stated, “I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career.”
He concluded his statement by affirming that his lawyer is actively pursuing legal action against the media parties responsible for generating and spreading this misinformation.

The prank story, initially published by K24 TV, was quickly dismissed as “fake news” by Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, who promptly shared this information on social media. It seems that the story has since been deleted from the K24 TV website and social media pages.
Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, is widely recognized as one of the most significant Afrobeats artists of the 21st century, alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid. His talent and unique sound have propelled him to international fame and success.
In 2019, Davido achieved a remarkable milestone by selling out London’s prestigious O2 Arena, becoming the first solo African artist to accomplish this feat. This achievement followed in the footsteps of Wizkid, who had achieved the same accolade the previous year.
