The party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Fatah, has recently placed blame on Hamas for the ongoing conflict with Israel in the Gaza Strip. This comes after Hamas attacks Israel on October 7th, which Fatah refers to as a “catastrophe.”
Fatah criticizes Hamas for not consulting with the Palestinian officials or any other national party before carrying out the attack, comparing it to the Nakba of 1948.

Fatah also takes a swipe at Hamas' leadership, accusing them of living lavishly in Qatar and having ties to Iran. They question why Hamas leaders would reside outside of the Gaza Strip while the Palestinian people face a “brutal war of extermination.”
Fatah suggests that Hamas would rather appoint a prime minister from Iran or let Tehran appoint one for the Palestinians.
Hamas denounced the appointment of new Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa by President Abbas. They argue that it deepens the division at a crucial moment in history and calls for unified leadership and free, democratic elections.
President Abbas, on the other hand, has asked Mustafa to lead reforms in the government, security services, and economy, fight corruption, and work towards reuniting administration in the West Bank and Gaza.
Mustafa, a longtime economic advisor to President Abbas, was born in the West Bank town of Tulkarem in 1954. He holds a doctorate in business administration and economics from George Washington University and has held senior positions at the World Bank.
He previously served as deputy prime minister and economy minister and is currently the chairman of the Palestine Investment Fund.
The United States expects the new government to deliver on policies and implement credible and far-reaching reforms. A reformed Palestinian officials are seen as essential for delivering results for the Palestinian people and establishing stability in both the West Bank and Gaza.
